The latest count pushed Andhra’s tally to 487,331, including 100,880 active cases, the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra.
The state public health bulletin on Saturday evening said 71 more persons had succumbed to the infection in the 24 hours till Saturday morning, pushing the death toll in the state on account of Covid-19 to 4,347.
The number of recoveries since Friday morning stood at 11,941, taking the total number of recoveries in Andhra Pradesh to 382,104 so far.
A statement from the state Covid-19 command control room said 69,623 samples were tested in the state in the 24 hours since Friday morning, pushing the total to 4,035,317 tests so far. This makes Andhra the fourth-highest in India, after Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.
East Godavari (1,399), Prakasam (1,332), West Godavari (1,103), Nellore (1,046) and Kadapa (1,039) reported new Covid-19 cases in four digits while the other 8 districts of Andhra registered fewer than 1,000 cases each.
By Saturday morning, the state had tested 75,568 samples per million persons, more than double the national average of 34,419 tests. The state’s rate of new positive cases increased to 12.08%, above the national average of 8.42%.
The state has reported a recovery rate of 78.41%, above the national average of 77.23%, while the mortality rate amounted to 0.89%, lower than the national average of 1.73%.
