  • SRH lost out on an opportunity to close in on top 4 of points table
  • David Warner also gave an update on Kane Williamson’s injury

Sunrisers Hyderabad have made things difficult for them after a decent start to their IPL 2020 season, losing 3 matches on the bounce. David Warner’s men lost a Super Over thriller to Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on Sunday as they threw away an opportunity to close in on the top 4 on the points table.

Captain David Warner came with up a valiant knock of 47 from 33 balls after dropping himself down to No. 4 due to an injury concern to Kane Williamson who opened the batting for Sunriers Hyderabad in their chase of 164 on Sunday. SRH needed 18 runs in the final over and Warner managed 14 off them against Andre Russell to force a Super Over.

However, their Super Over ended in a flash with Lockie Ferguson castling Warner and Abul Samad in just 3 deliveries as SRH managed just 2 runs. KKR knocked it off without much trouble even as Rashid Khan threatened to spoil the party for KKR.

It was the third time in as many matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to seize crucial moments. With just 6 points from 9 matches, SRH have entered the must-win territory as the top 4 look set to run away with the play-offs spots.

“I don’t know where to start. At the end of the day, we probably leaked a few too many towards the middle overs and at the back end. For us it’s about finishing games and we’ve come too close in the last 3 games but failed to cross the finish line. I am quite disappointed,” David Warner said.

David Warner on Kane Williamson’s injury: Hopefully, he will back soon

It was New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson who jolted Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday as he finished with figures of 14/3 in 4 overs. He took the responsibility of bowling in the Super Over and castled Warner and Samad to end SRH’s chances in just 3 balls.

Meanwhile, David Warner said Kane Williamson will need some physio work after he picked up an injury while fielding against KKR. Williamson was sent in to open as SRH wanted to maximise their resources in the powerplay, keeping in mind Williamon’s inability to run between wickets.

Williamson hit a 19-ball 29 as he along with Jonny Bairstow gave a solid start to the SRH in their chase. However, the former champions kept losing wickets at regular intervals to make a meal of the chase.

“Kane had to open because he had a slight niggle towards the top end of his adductor. H8e will get some physio treatment in the next couple of days and hopefully comes back,” Warner said.
