The project to construct a bridge across the Perandoor canal, linking Vaduthala and Perandoor in the Ernakulam constituency, is set to become a reality soon, according to MLA T.J. Vinod.
The contract has been awarded to GM Engineers & Contractors, chosen from among five firms that participated in the tender process. In a statement, the MLA said the contractor would soon sign an agreement with the Public Works (Bridges) department and take over the site, after which construction will commence immediately.
As part of the project, 13.5 acres of land have been acquired in the Perandoor region and 10.56 acres in the Vaduthala area. The total cost of the project, including land acquisition, is estimated at ₹34 crore.
The bridge will provide a convenient link between the Pachalam and Vaduthala areas and Perandoor, he added. Although in-principle approval for land acquisition was granted in 2011, the project faced delays due to various reasons, the release said.
