Temple priest, burnt alive over land dispute in Rajasthan’s Karauli, dies; 1 arrested

A temple priest was burned alive by a few people during a scuffle over a land dispute in Karauli district of Rajasthan on Wednesday. A day later, the priest died due to burn injuries.

A temple priest was burned alive by a few people during a scuffle over a land dispute in Karauli district of Rajasthan. The priest died due to burn injuries on Thursday night. The main accused, identified as Kailash Meena, has been arrested by the police and efforts are on to nab the other accused who attacked the priest and burned him alive.

The incident happened on Wednesday at Bukna village in Sapotra, Karauli district, Rajasthan, and the temple priest succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.

“Kailash Meena, the main accused in the case has been arrested. Six teams have been formed to investigate the matter. Efforts are on to nab the other accused,” Mridul Kachhwa, SP, Karauli said.

Agitated over only one arrest, a relative of the priest alleged that the entire family of Kailash Meena is involved in the case.

“Only one accused has been arrested for burning the priest. We demand the accused’s entire family involved in this case should be arrested and police officials should be suspended for inaction. There’s anger in the entire Brahmin community,” Ramakant Sharma, priest’s relative, was quoted as sying by news agency ANI.
