Ranchi Police launch probe into ‘murder’ of pet Persian cat

The pet owner told Ranchi Police that his Persian cat first went missing on October 20 and was found dead near his garage following an extensive search.

Ranchi Police in Jharkhand are probing a unique case, the murder of a pet Persian cat. A case was registered in this regard on the basis of a complaint by the pet owner who claimed that his cat was deliberately killed.

In his complaint to the Lower Bazar police station in Ranchi, pet owner Shabbir Hussian said that his pet Persian cat had been missing since October 20. After a prolonged search, the complainant found his cat lying dead near his garage.

Suspecting that some unidentified person throttled his cat, Hussain decided to approach the police and registered a complaint in this great. He mentioned in his complaint that he had nurtured the pet with great affection and care.

Based on his complaint, Ranchi Police registered a case under section 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A bailable offence, it corresponds to charges of killing, poisoning, or maiming any animal.

The pet owner wants the culprit behind bars and has vowed to take the case to a logical end.

Superintendent of Police, Ranchi (city) said the department is investigating into the case. “The pet’s body has been sent for postmortem. We will not spare the criminals if the pet is found to have been deliberately murdered,” the SP added.
