The priest died due to burn injuries on Thursday night. The main accused, identified as Kailash Meena, has been arrested by the police and efforts are on to nab the other accused who attacked the priest and burned him alive.

According to an NDTV report, the temple priest had about 5.2 acres of land which belonged to the Radha Krishna temple trust in the village. However, the land was given to the head priest.

The land became a dispute after the priest, Babu Lal Vaishnav, had the land levelled as he wanted to build a plot for himself close to the land which was objected by a group of people. The other group claimed that the land was theirs.

Before succumbing to his injuries, the priest told the police that the accused set fire to his bales of bajra (millet), poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
