MP byelections: CM Shivraj gets on knees to thank voters, Kamal Nath says could’ve worked instead

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s picture showing him on his knees has sparked a war of words in the state. With byelections around the corner, former chief minister Kamal Nath criticised CM Chouhan’s actions prompting a sharp response from the latter.

One of the 28 Assembly seats up for byelections in Madhya Pradesh next month is Suwasra in Mandsaur district. The BJP has fielded Hardeep Singh Dang, a former Congress MLA.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was addressing a campaign event for Hardeep Singh Dang where he went down on his knees, bowed his head and requested voters to back the BJP’s candidate.

In his address, CM Chouhan had said, “During the elections, they (Congress) had said that the BJP will be wiped out in Mandsaur and Neemuch. I will never forget the support the people gave at that time and I am indebted to you.”

“Today, my heart tells me Shivraj sit down right here and offer gratitude to the people of Mandsaur and Neemuch and thank the workers,” CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had gone on to say. He then went down on his knees, bowed down before the people to thank voters and workers. His actions were greeted with a loud response from those present at the event.

No need to get down on your knees if you had worked: Kamal Nath

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath took this opportunity to launch a scathed attack on CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In a tweet, Nath said, “If the leader does not lie to the people, does not show them false dreams, does not make fake announcements, does not break false election-related coconuts, fulfills the commitments made to the public while considering it a promise- does not serve them waxed speeches, does not insult the mandate and insult politics by compromise for his greed for power, the mandate for him is supreme, the people would praise him, make him the crown on their heads, there is then no need for him to get down on his knees.”

We don’t bend our knees in front of Italy: BJP

In response to Kamal Nath’s criticism, the BJP also sent out a tweet saying, “Each of us have our own sacraments Kamal Nath ji! While some people bow down before the people of India, others bow down before Italy or China.
