The Mumbai Police has arrested a man wanted in a murder case after 31 years from Nalasopara in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, an official said on Saturday.
The man, Deepak Bhise, who is now 62 years old, is accused of killing one Raju Chikna in 1989 and attempting to murder one Dharmendra Saroj, news agency PTI reported. He was arrested on Friday night, the official added.
According to the official, Bhise was granted bail in 1992 but did not turn up for hearings of the case in court. He was declared absconding by the court in 2003, he stated.
“Whenever the police visited Bhise’s residential address at Tulaskarwadi in suburban Kandivali, locals would tell us he might have died, but we kept looking for him,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
The police, during the search, managed to get the mobile number of the accused’s wife. A police team tracked him down to Nalasopara, from where he was arrested.
Bhise settled in the locality with his family and used to take contracts for cutting trees, PTI reported, citing the official.
“The accused, who is 62 years old now, has been arrested. Further investigation is on,” Kandivali police station sub-inspector Nitin Satam said.
