Madhya Pradesh man returns home 13 days after family performed his last rites

A man from Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh, returned home alive during the thirteenth-day rituals after his family had performed his last rites.

Recently, a photo of an accident in Surwal near Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, was circulated on social media, requesting help for the injured.

A family from Lahchoda village identified the injured man as Surendra Sharma and rushed him to Jaipur, where he had been referred for treatment. The doctors in Jaipur informed the family that Surendra died during treatment.

Surwal police station in-charge Lal Bahadur Meena said that the family had initially identified the person who died in the accident as Surendra. The body was handed over to them after the post-mortem. The body was cremated on May 28.

As the family prepared for Surendra’s thirteenth-day rituals, they received a phone call from Surendra the day before. Initially thinking it was a joke, his brother asked Surendra to confirm via a video call.

When they saw Surendra alive, they asked him to return home immediately, and all preparations for the thirteenth-day ceremony were postponed.

The confusion began when a man died in an accident in Surwal. A food bill from a roadside restaurant in Sheopur was found in his pocket, leading Surwal police to identify the person who died in the accident.

Social worker Bihari Singh Solanki posted the photo on social media, where Surendra’s family mistakenly identified him as Surendra and performed his last rites.

Krishna Devi, Surendra’s mother, recounted that the family identified an unknown body as Surendra and performed all the rituals. When they received his call, they could not believe it, she said.

Surendra, who works in a cloth factory in Jaipur, said that his phone had been damaged, preventing him from contacting his family for two months.

However, with Surendra now proven to be alive, the family has been called in for further investigation.
