IPL 2020: Ran out of the ground and ended up on the road once – CSK’s Imran Tahir on his famous celebration

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Imran Tahir is yet to get a game in IPL 2020 and fans are defintely missing his trademark wild ‘running’ celebration. With 7 defeats in their 10 matches, CSK are at the bottom of the points table and are almost out of the contest for play-offs spot. Considering the given scenario, MS Dhoni might unleash his old horse, who won the Purple Cap last season, in the remaining 4 league matches of the team.

Tahir’s celebratory style after taking a wicket has given birth to some hilarious viral memes in the past. With not much to expect from the 3-time champions in the season, fans will definitely want to see end of CSK’s run with the pumped up running march of the 41-year-old Tahir.

Delhi Capitals spinner Ravichandra Ashwin is also hoping for the same and during his YouTube chat show, took the opportunity to ask about the veteran’s celebration style. “Why do you run a mile after taking the wicket,” Ashwin asked.

Answering to the question, Imran Tahir revealed an interesting anecdote and said during a county game 15 years ago, he was so thrilled after the fall of last that he ran out of the ground and ended up on the road outisde it. Imran Tahir added that people laughed at it but it was sheer passion for him.

“I call it pure passion. I don’t know where it comes from. In club cricket in England, 15 years ago, after a wicket and a brilliant catch, I ran. Out of the ground, on the bank, to the road. I had to walk back. People were laughing. I didn’t know. It was funny, but that’s how I’ve been. I don’t know how people see it. There’s no celebration plan. Every wicket is important,” Imran Tahir said.

Tahir also talked about not getting a game this season for CSK and said that Chennai set-up is such that once 4 overseas players get a go, the management sticks to them throughut the competition.

Tahir, who has been seen carrying drinks for his teammates during the CSK matches, added that he now realses how his compatriot Faf du Plessis must have felt during the last season when he was carrying drinks despite having a good T20 average.

“I have no clue. Earlier, Faf Du Plessis had to carry drinks the whole season. It was quite painful. He’s got a brilliant T20 average. I’m doing that this year. I actually got an idea of how he felt. I have been talking to him as well,” Imran Tahir stated.

Chennai Super Kings will next face 4-time champions Mumbai Indians on Friday.
