Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals on Monday thumped the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 59 runs in Dubai and claimed their spot at the top of the points table with four wins in five matches.

After being put in to bat by the RCB, Delhi Capitals got a perfect start from Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan and were racing away at 63 for no loss at the end of their powerplay overs. RCB did strike back in the middle-overs and slowed the pace of scoring, but DC batsman Marcus Stoinis hit an unbeaten 53 off 26 balls and took them to an above par total of 196/4.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore batting never seemed to get off the rails for the chase. The lost the three crucial wickets of Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers in their powerplay, and after that they never seemed to be in the game.

Skipper Virat Kohli hit 43 runs off 39 balls, but also perished trying to score some quick runs when Kagiso Rabada got him caught behind.

Sachin lauds Delhi Capitals’s bowling

India legend Sachin Tendulkar also credited the Delhi Capitals bowlers for the win against the RCB.

“Delhi Capitals really bowled well. Smart bowling changes by Shreyas Iyer, which didn’t allow the batsmen to get off to flying starts. RCB has a good batting line-up but were completely outplayed today,” said the maestro on social media immediately after the game.

Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers and returned with excellent figures of 4/24 in his four overs. He got the wickets of Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube and Isuru Udana. He also narrowly missed out on a hat-trick, and got 3 wickets in the space of 4 deliveries.
