India’s Covid tally climbs to 7.4 lakh after 482 deaths, 22,752 cases in a day

In the past 24 hours, ending Wednesday morning, India saw nearly 23,000 new cases of the novel coronavirus and 482 deaths. The overall case count in India has now crossed the 7.4-lakh mark.

A spike of nearly 23,000 cases of the novel coronavirus and 482 deaths in a single day pushed India’s overall case tally to over 7.4 lakh on Wednesday morning.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India saw 22,752 new Covid-19 cases and 482 deaths in the last 24 hours. While India’s overall Covid tally has now 7,42,417, the death toll reached 20,642 on Wednesday.

The overall coronavirus tally of India includes 2,64,944 active cases, while 4,56,831 have recovered, as per latest data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state with 2,17,121 coronavirus cases and 9,250 deaths. Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu (1,18,594) and Delhi with 1,02,831 coronavirus cases.

On Tuesday, India’s Covid-19 caseload increased to 7,19,665, while the death toll climbed to 20,160.

Coronavirus cases have been consistently rising in India. While it took 110 days for coronavirus cases in the country to reach one lakh, it crossed the seven lakh-mark in just 48 days. From 6 lakh cases to 7 lakh cases, India recorded 1 lakh coronavirus cases in 4 days.

Globally, India is now ranked below the United States and Brazil, the two worst-hit nations in the world.
