Congress woman leader thrashed by party cadre in UP’s Deoria, says had questioned ticket to rape accused

At a time when the nation is agitated over the alleged gangrape and death of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, another startling incident has stoked controversy from state’s Deoria district on Saturday. The incident concerns the Congress party.

A video has been doing rounds on social media from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria where a group of Congress workers are seen thrashing a woman party leader at an event.

In a video, which has been doing rounds on social media, Congress leaders were caught manhandling a woman party worker in UP’s Deoria at an event.

According to news agency ANI, the woman party worker, identified as Tara Yadav, for allegedly questioning Congress’s decision to give a ticket, to contst bypolls, to a rape accused.”I was thrashed by party workers when I questioned the party’s decision to give a ticket to a rapist, Mukund Bhaskar for upcoming by-polls. Now, I’m waiting for Priyanka Gandhi ji to take action,” ANI quoted Tara.

“On one hand, our party leaders are fighting for justice for Hathras case victim, and on the other hand, party ticket is being given to a rapist. It is a wrong decision. It will malign the image of our party,” Tara Yadav said, ANI reported.

The shocking incident has attracted a lot of attention on Twitter. Among those who reacted to the grave incident was National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma.

In a tweet, Rekha Sharma said, “How all these sick minded people come in politics..?? Will be taking cognizance.”
