BSF apprehends 2 arms smugglers from Punjab border; recovers pistols

In a major crackdown on cross-border arms smuggling in Punjab, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday apprehended two smugglers and recovered two pistols from them. The BSF recovered a drone in a separate operation, officials said.

Acting on an intelligence tip-off, BSF troops put up multiple ambushes in suspected areas of Amritsar district on Sunday at around 2:30 pm. During the operation, the personnel caught one smuggler and recovered a pistol from him.

In a similar operation nearly two hours later, BSF troops nabbed another arms smuggler from Kakkar village in Amritsar, recovering a pistol with a magazine wrapped in yellow adhesive tape from him. Both the smugglers have been handed to the local police for further investigation.

Earlier on Sunday, a joint search operation carried out by the BSF and Punjab Police resulted in the recovery of a DJI AIR 3-S drone from a harvested field in district Tarn Taran.

The operations have come on the back of heightened security along India’s border with Pakistan against the backdrop of the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which 26 lives were lost.
