Badaun Chief Medical Officer suspended over negligence during post-mortem

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Friday suspended the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Badaun, Dr Pradeep Varshney, for negligence during a post-mortem of a woman’s body.

The action was taken after a case of negligence was highlighted over missing eyes after the post-mortem.

The woman, a resident of Badaun, was married about nine months ago. Her father alleged that the woman was being harassed for dowry and that his daughter was murdered by her in-laws. After the incident, the police sent the body for a post-mortem.

According to the family members, both eyes were missing from the woman’s body when the body bag was opened after the post-mortem. The family members complained to the District Magistrate in this regard.

On December 11, a three-member enquiry committee was formed under the Additional District Magistrate. The three-tier enquiry committee prepared the report on December 12 in which the post-mortem team was found guilty.

The report stated that the Chief Medical Officer of Badaun did not discharge his responsibilities consciously.

The Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak expressed displeasure over the incident. Chief Medical Officer of Badaun, Dr Pradeep Varshney, was found negligent in discharging his official responsibilities and duties.

After an investigation, Dr Pradeep Varshney was suspended.

The Additional Director of Bareilly has been directed to collect details of the doctors and other personnel who conducted the post-mortem of the woman’s body.
