‘Animal’ has been receiving polarising opinion from the audience and the critics. Recently, lyricist Swanand Kirkire said that he is worried about the future of Indian Cinema because films like ‘Animal’ are being celebrated and are doing immense business. Like several other films, ‘Animal’ also has an official page on X. On this page, a post taking a dig at Swanand Kirkire was featured. It read, “Do not let your knees fall ahead of your toes or cave in towards each other. Keep feet shoulder-width apart to maintain a good base of support for balance. Land softly on the balls of the feet to help absorb the force of the landing. Yes…. now it landed perfectly @swanandkirkire (sic)”
This comes right after Swanand Kirkire had criticised the film. He took to X on December 2 and wrote about ‘Animal’ for showing themes like sexual abuse, hyper-toxic masculinity, domestic abuse, and excessive violence and gore. He also asserted that the film is taking the future of Indian cinema in a ‘dangerous and scary’ direction. He had also mentioned in Hindi, “In my understanding, this film will determine the future of Indian cinema afresh, in a new, scary and dangerous direction (sic).”
