Wadhwani Institute deploys AI solution for TB treatment at Haryana’s govt health facilities – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence has announced the deployment of an AI solution titled Comprehensive Loss to Follow-Up And Mortality Prediction (CLAMP-TB), developed under the USAID-supported TRACE-TB Project. The AI solution will help to predict the risk of ‘loss to follow-up’ (LFU) and mortality among TB patients when they start TB treatment from government-run health facilities in Haryana.

The National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) staff will provide intensive care to the AI-predicted high-risk patients during six to twelve months of treatment, using the AI solution across Haryana.

Leading up to the study’s launch, Wadhwani AI conducted training sessions for NTEP staff in Gurugram, Bhiwani, Ambala, and Rohtak districts, to facilitate the usage of CLAMP-TB at approximately 157 government health facilities across the state of Haryana. Wadhwani AI predicts that the district TB officers, data entry operators, senior treatment supervisors, and TB health visitors will use this AI solution to predict and initiate targeted TB treatments for almost 12,000 high-risk patients in the next 15 to 18 months.

Dr Rajesh Raju, State TB Officer, NTEP, Haryana says, “I am excited about the study of AI-based LFU/death prediction as it has the potential to transform how we approach TB management. By utilising predictive analytics, we can identify high-risk patients and intervene early to prevent LFU and mortality among TB patients taking care in our government-run health facilities.”

On the occasion of the launch, Dr Sandeep Mishra, Program Manager, Wadhwani AI said, “I believe that timely identification of TB cases at an early stage, that are at a high risk of potential adverse outcomes, is crucial for TB programmes to give targeted and intensive interventions, thus reducing the LFU/mortality rate. Throughout the deployment, we will continue our regular review of data uploaded on the CLAMP portal and provide feedback to NTEP staff.”
