No democracy in India: Rahul Gandhi after giving a letter to President

NEW DELHI: Congress’ Rahul Gandhi has alleged that “there is no democracy in India” anymore and claimed that “even (RSS chief) Mohan Bhagawat would be called a terrorist” if he opposed the policies of PM Modi. Asserting the agitating farmers won’t back off, Congress leaders demanded that the Centre convene a joint Parliament sitting and repeal the farm laws.

Speaking to media persons outside Rashtrapati Bhavan after he, Ghulam Nabi Azad (the duo’s first joint public appearance since the letter row) and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury met the President on Thursday, Gandhi alleged the government was unfairly labelling opponents of the farms laws. “Through these laws PM Modi is helping his 2-3 crony capitalists make money… The moment someone speaks against the government of the day, they are labelled anti-nationals and terrorists.

Whoever will try to stand up against PM Modi will be called a terrorist — be it farmers, labourers. Even Mohan Bhagwat would be called a terrorist… There is no democracy in India. If some of you think there is, then it’s only in your imagination,” he added.

Earlier, the police foiled the plan of Congress MPs and AICC functionaries, including Priyanka Vadra, to stage a symbolic march to Rashtrapati Bhavan. The party handed over a memorandum “signed by two crore farmers seeking withdrawal of the three laws” to the President.
