Naga talks: Prime minister’s office has invited us, says apex body of Naga tribes Naga Hoho

Guwahati: With the Apex body of Naga tribes, Naga Hoho expressing its dismay with the style of functioning of Interlocutor of Naga talks, R N Ravi, Prime Minister’s office has invited Hoho for talks.

Naga Hoho President H K Zhimomi told ET, ” On July 28, Naga Hoho has sent a memorandum to Prime minister, Narendra Modi seeking his intervention on Naga talks. The Prime minister’s office has asked us to come to New Delhi as early as possible however no date is fixed yet and official correspondence is going on.”

He added, “We are presently engaged in getting requisite clearance for travelling at this time of pandemic is early difficult.”

In the memorandum Hoho has alleged that the Governor of Nagaland, who is also the Interlocutor to the Indo-Naga Peace Talks, R N Ravi, is functioning in an “autocratic manner” without any regard and respect for what has been achieved so far.

The memorandum stated that “no tangible solution is emerging nor is there any progress in the political talk” even after five years of signing the Framework Agreement. “With the appointment of RN Ravi as the Governor, it was hoped to expedite the peace process. Instead, he is breaking the hard-earned trust and faith of the people and rendering the 23 years of negotiation meaningless by smearing the Naga history and also the political groups with whom the Government of India is engaged in a negotiation,” it alleged.

The memorandum added, “We continue to trust in your leadership and we urge you to look into the matters placed before you as a priority. With your personal and political commitment, we believe that the solution is not far away”.

The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs)on Thursday contested the Hoho’s allegation and said Ravi as Interlocutor in the Indo-Naga political dialogue has exhibited serious concern and commitment with practical touch.

“Past interlocutors and negotiators, in a mutual comfort zone, indulged in innuendos and political gymnastics with routine hyperboles and hypothetical assumptions to sedate the Naga people”.

The WC of NNPGs stated, “We have negotiated at length and agreed in principle the proposed political arrangements, entrenching distinct Naga identity in all Naga inhabited areas. After all it is a Naga narrative and not of one leader”.

Meanwhile a nine member team of NSCN-IM has reached New Delhi. Thuingaleng Muivah, general secretary of NSCN-IM is already in New Delhi.

As the Centre will hold talks with Hoho, parleys with NSCN-IM will be held next week. A senior NSCN-IM who does not want to be named told ET, “The teams have reached New Delhi. Talks are scheduled for next week.”
