Cabinet reshuffle likely on Wednesday amid buzz of big reset

The long-anticipated reshuffle and expansion of the Union Cabinet is expected to take place on July 7.

There are speculations of several senior leaders like former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia, RCP Singh to be accommodated in the Cabinet. Recently, Uttarakhand former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat met the PM as well.

In 2019, there were 57 ministers – 24 cabinet rank, nine ministers of state with independent charge and 24 ministers of state. After Shiv Sena severed ties with the BJP and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) founder Ram Vilas Paswan passed away, the strength of cabinet ministers has been reduced to 21.

According to the Constitution, the number of Ministers in the Union council of Ministers cannot exceed more than 15% of the total Lok Sabha members.

It is believed that the BJP’s allies like JD(U) and Apna Dal can also get representation.

For the last few weeks, PM Modi has been meeting Union ministers in groups with BJP president J P Nadda also being present in the exercise to review their works and gather feedback.
