BJP kick-starts OBC meetings across Uttar Pradesh

The BJP kick-started a series of OBC sammelans or meetings of other backward classes in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday to strengthen its appeal among non-Yadav OBCs. The meetings will culminate in a large gathering in Ayodhya on September 18.

During the meetings, the BJP will largely talk about the work done for OBCs by its governments in the state and at the Centre, said party members.

The initiative comes shortly after the Jan-Ashirwad Yatra of newly inducted Union ministers which was aimed at reaching out to those castes among OBCs who have been given representation in the Union cabinet.

At a time when opposition parties in UP are busy with Brahmin sammelans, the BJP has stepped up its focus on the OBC community.

Apart from Meerut, three consecutive meetings shall take place in Ayodhya, Kanpur and Mathura on September 2,3 and 4. On September 8, there will be a meeting in Kashi and another one in Gorakhpur on September 9.

“We are mobilising our OBC Morcha cadre on all the assembly seats through these meetings with an aim to once again win the next assembly election,” Narendra Kashyap, state BJP OBC Morcha president, told ET. “Through these meetings we are also preparing for the executive meeting on September 18 in Ayodhya.”

The meeting in Ayodhya will be attended by Union minister Bhupender Yadav, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, state BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh and other leaders.

Invitations are also being sent to Union home minister Amit Shah.
