The Uttar Pradesh Police has booked three men including NISHAD party MLA Vijay Mishra and his son for allegedly raping a 25-year-old singer.
NISHAD (Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal) party is an ally of the ruling BJP.
What happened
The victim has alleged that in 2014 Mishra had called her to his house for a programme, when he raped her and threatened to kill her if she ever spoke up about the incident.
Bhadohi Superintendent of Police Ram Badan Singh told news agency PTI that the singer also alleged that in 2015, she was raped at a hotel in Varanasi. She also claimed that once after raping her, Mishra told his son and nephew to drop her home but, both of them allegedly raped her before taking her back.
MLA Vijay Mishra a repeat offender
In September this year, MLA Vijay Mishra was arrested from Madhya Pradesh for a land-grabbing case and has been lodged in Agra jail.
The singer told Aaj Tak that she decided to lodge a complaint at the Gopiganj police station on Sunday after she came to know that Mishra is behind bars.
“Vijay Mishra also has my video clip. Moreover, since he is involved in various cases and is powerful, I was afraid of complaining against him earlier,” said the victim.
Mishra was shifted to Agra central jail from Chitrakoot jail around three weeks back, reported PTI.
He is also accused in several other cases.
