Your Weekend Planner October 9: Rhea Chakraborty ke Mumbai se Kaleen Bhaiya ke Mirzapur tak

Dear Reader,

“Jo aaya hai, woh jayega bhi. Bas marzi humari hogi,” Kaleen Bhaiyaa’s buttery voice opens the 2-minute-48-second trailer of Mirzapur 2. And suddenly one realises how perfectly this applies to the life of Rhea Chakraborty. Rhea was finally granted bail by the Bombay High Court on October 7, and she left the Byculla jail after 28 days of judicial custody. Yes, jo aaya hai wh jayega bhi, bas marzi humari hogi. Kiski marzi, you ask? Well, that’s the stuff of web series. Don’t expect it to be over in 3 hours. Or even 3 months. But before we move on from the Curious Case of Rhea Chakraborty (for this week, at least), consider this: The Bombay HC, in its verdict said that buying drugs for someone doesn’t automatically mean that they were involved in drug trafficking. Umm.. so what was the Narcotics Control Bureau’s point of contention, exactly?

Mumbai se ho kar chaltein hai Mirzapur ki taraf. Oh, what a trailer it was! And needless to say it inspired some hilarious memes and reactions. Check it out yourself.

And while you’re on Twitter, if you spot a Twitter account that belongs to a fly, don’t lose it. It is for real. Mike Pence may or may not have made a mark in his debate against Kamala Harris, but a fly that sat on his head certainly did. And Twitter was no fly on the wall about it. All we’re saying is if it wasn’t for Pence’s white hair, the fly wouldn’t fly. And Kamala Harris’s uncle would agree with us on this.

So, yeah, Twitter does throw up some amazing things sometimes. Apart from the fly, another solid news Twitter gave was Baba Ka Dhaba. Dilliwalon ne dil dikhaya, and this elderly couple who was struggling to make ends meet, sold off all their food – a first in pandemic times – in just a matter of 4 hours. We may not be able to extract moisture from the air through wind turbines, but we will stand with those who really need us.

And what we need right now is a decadent sweet dish, a good book or some interesting shows to binge on. And a peaceful weekend. For the first three, scroll down, please. We guarantee the last one will follow.

Until next week…

WHAT’S TRENDING?

There was outrage. Massive outrage after Rhea Chakraborty walked out of Mumbai’s Byculla jail on Wednesday after almost a month. Make no mistake because the internet isn’t furious over Rhea but due to the Bombay High Court contradicting the Narcotics Control Bureau’s claims in the “Bengal tigress’” role in the entire drug probe that commenced after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. You can read more about this in the movies section.

While social media is busy discussing the futility of Rhea’s arrest, a fly managed to make its way to the States and land on Mike Pence’s head during his heated debate with US Senator Kamala Harris. This fly has a Twitter account, in fact, as it occupied the top spot on the trends list after this particular episode. Yes, it’s true.

Not just the Vice President but US President Donald Trump also found himself on the receiving end of the internet after he removed his face mask and posed for pictures at the White House on Monday. The thing is that Trump tested positive for coronavirus last Friday and was discharged on Monday. Moments later, he took off his face mask. The internet is very, very angry.

By the way, you might find this bizarre but a 17-year-old girl from Texas has broken the Guinness World Record for having the world’s longest legs. Maci Currin’s left leg measures 135.267cms and right leg measures 134.3cms.

In India, meanwhile, Eshna Kutty put up another video of her hoopla dance as she wore a saree and displayed upbeat steps to Chinnamma Chilakkamma with two hoops. Epic!

However, one particular video from New Delhi’s Malviya Nagar made the internet emotional. An elderly couple runs an eatery by the road in the area and the painful story of their struggle went viral on the internet. The man wept as he narrated his plight in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Twitter did its thing as the post was circulated across social media in an attempt to help the couple in such trying times.

But we saved the best for the last. There was enough motivation on Monday as Arshad Khan, the viral Chaiwala from Pakistan, made incessant headlines again. The ‘blue-eyed’ boy has launched his own Chai café in Islamabad. Read more here.

That made you smile, right? The next section will, too.

SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU SMILE

After making fans wait for two years, the trailer for season two of Mirzapur finally released this week. After being posted, the trailer immediately went viral and managed to garner more than 13 million views in a day. However, it wasn’t just the trailer, the memes inspired from the dialogues in the video also flooded the internet. And they were hilarious.

In your dose of adorable animal content for the week, we have a video of a baby hugging a pet dog. We are sure that you will end up watching it on repeat. But what delighted us more was that the doggo also ended up hugging the baby back.

Want some more cute animal content? Well, World Animal Day was recently celebrated on October 4. To celebrate the day people in Philippines had their pets blessed by a priest via a drive-through ceremony. Cats, dogs and birds were sprinkled with holy water by a Catholic priest in Manila.

Another video of a kid performing Bhangra for two dogs and their reaction to it left netizens delighted.

A video that had us saying aww this week was a short clip of a man playing the guitar with his newborn baby perched on top of the instrument. The baby in blue woollens and a cap also enjoyed the music. At times, the baby also tried playing the guitar by moving his little hands around the strings.

One more video of a man wearing a well-fitted baby pink suit, which he teamed with a deep purple tie and brown formal shoes, walking into a room with much swag left Twitter swooning and with a big smile.

Age is just a number and a video of a 103-year-old man from the USA skydiving, and in turn, making a Guinness World Record is proving the same. Alfred Al Blaschke recently jumped from a plane flying at a height of 14,000 feet in order to celebrate his twin grandson’s graduation. How cool is that?

FROM THE WORLD OF MOVIES

28 days a prisoner. Rhea Chakraborty was finally granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Wednesday (October 7) and she went home after 28 days. But the point of debate was why Bombay HC granted Rhea bail. Turns out providing money to buy drugs doesn’t mean Rhea Chakraborty was involved in illicit trafficking, contrary to what the NCB had been saying. Wow! Simultaneously, AIIMS submitted their final report on Sushant Singh Rajput and ruled out murder as the cause of death. It was a suicide, they said and the CBI will now investigate that. SSR’s family isn’t happy about either of the two things that happened over the week. Oh well.

We’re going to swiftly move on to Monday Masala, dedicated to Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun, a film that put the director back on the map. In Tuesday Trivia we tell you about the time Kamal Haasan shot with real-life bulls in Virumandi. Wahiyat Wednesday made us say one thing – No MSG, please. And in Throwback Thursday, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor’s jodi in Do Dooni Chaar showed us what happens after The End in a romantic film. Lots of great stuff, hope you like it.

Before we set you off into the World Of OTT, let’s remind you that Kaleen Bhaiyyan will reach us on October 23 with Mirzapur 2. Yes, hold your breath. We are too. Until then, here are some other solid releases on OTT that will surely keep you glued to the screen.
