A woman was locked and forced to live inside a toilet for over a year in Panipat by her husband. She was finally rescued from the inhuman conditions she was living in by a group of officials from the women and child welfare department.

While her husband has claimed the woman is mentally unstable, Women Protection and Child Marriage Prohibition Officer Rajni Gupta, who rescued the woman from the stinking toilet, told ANI that she found no signs of mental illness in her.

The woman has been locked inside the toilet for over a year by her husband and the rescue team said she has been starving for many days.

According to another report in Hindustan Times, the woman has been married for 17 years and is the mother of three children.

Speaking to ANI, Rajni Gupta said, “I received information that a woman was locked in the toilet for over a year. I came here with my team. When we reached here, we found that it was true. It seems that woman has not eaten anything for many days.”

Meanwhile, the woman’s husband continues to claim that she is mentally unstable and would not do the things she was asked to. The team of officials said that they could not immediately confirm if she was indeed suffering from a mental illness.

A complaint has been registered against the husband, Naresh, and police have said they will first consult a doctor and then decide on further action.
