Virat Kohli said you can have food from Kerala later, focus on cricket for next 10 years, says Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals batsman Sanju Samson has been in terrific form in IPL 2020, and has been a key member in both the wins that the team has registered this season.

Coming at the crucial No 3 position, Samson has been the player around whom Rajasthan Royals look to build their innings. This, of course, is a huge compliment for a young batsman, with the likes of senior players like Steve Smith and Jos Buttler around in the team.

The 25-year-old Kerala batsman recently spoke about a conversation with India skipper Virat Kohli that changed his perspective towards fitness.

Samson said that this was during a gym session with the Indian cricket team, where he saw Virat Kohli training and asked him about how he maintains such high standards of fitness.

“When I was in the gym with the Indian team, I was there with Virat bhai. I asked him what is his training routine and how he puts so much energy into fitness.

“I kept on asking him a lot of such different questions. Then he asked me ‘Sanju how many years are you going to play cricket’, so I said that I am 25 right now, and I can play for another 10 years or so.

‘Kohli told me I can do whatever else I want after 10 years’

“Then Virat told me, after 10 years you can do whatever, you can eat food from Kerala and whatever else you want to do, but you won’t be able to play cricket after these 10 years. So, why don’t you give everything, whatever you have, to cricket in these 10 years.”

Samson said that this was an eye-opener of sorts for him. Although he was already very dedicated towards his practice, what Virat Kohli said, it only made him want to work harder.

“So, he really changed my perspective, my dedication towards cricket. I was already very dedicated, but this made me further change the way I think,” Samson added.

Sanju Samson has been in terrific form this IPL, and has scored 159 runs in just two innings.

In Rajasthan Royal’s first match against the Chennai Super Kings, he scored 74 runs of 32 balls with one four and nine sixes and set the tempo for the other batters to play around him.

In their next game against KXIP, he blazed through with 85 runs of 42 balls with four fours and seven sixes.
