HIGHLIGHTS

  • Pragyan Ojha has backed Virat Kohli to bounce back soon
  • Kohli has had a poor start in IPL 2020 with only 18 runs in 3 games
  • Kohli scored the winning runs in the Super Over against MI

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has so far just scored knocks of 14, 1, 3 in the ongoing 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League so far. With a total of just 18 runs so far in the tournament, apart from his Super Over knock of 5 off 2, Virat Kohli’s form has been under the scanner of critics. However, given the stature of the best limited-overs batsman in the world, many have come to his support.

Virat Kohli’s RCB have won 2 out of 3 games so far in the 13th edition of the IPL and are on the 5th spot in the ever-changing points table. In this light, Kohli’s former India teammate has backed the current Indian captain of all formats and has claimed a solid comeback from him.

“When you talk about Virat, he has got nothing to prove to anyone. He is a very confident man. Right from the very day 1 when he came to the picture he was a very confident man and he always wanted to do it on his own. He is the person who is always there. ‘I’m the one who is going to do it for his country, for my team. Whichever team he plays for. And I just saw his statement when ABD said that I’m going to go out and bat in the Super Over, Virat said ‘I’m joining you boss’,” Pragyan Ojha said on Sports Today.

“See that’s the confidence he carries. As a leader, when you carry that kind of confidence, it spreads a lot of positivity in your team. No matter, you know, Virat Kohli has not started well with the bat in IPL 2020, I’m not worried about that. He is just five or 10 balls away from a great knock. If he gets that 5 to 10 balls and he is set, then you’ll see a different Virat Kohli and we’ve always seen that.”

Pragyan Ojha also shed light on Virat Kohli’s captaincy and how he has been playing his cricket since day one.

“At times you have that match pressure then again when you see the captain being little more aggressive. Sometimes few players, they’re not comfortable. But you know when you’re playing with a champion player, he expects you to be at the top, always performing really well. That’s how he is been playing his cricket. So when you’re playing with Virat, you have to be at your top of the game. He has always been like that – be it the Indian team or any team that he’s played for. He has always expressed himself really well,” he added.
