Union Minister for Ayush Shripad Naik has tested positive for coronavirus today, making him the fifth minister in the Narendra Modi government to have tested positive for the viral disease.

Informing about his test result, Shripad Naik in a tweet said, “I underwent Covid-19 test today and it has turned out asymptomatically positive. My vitals are within normal limits and I have opted for home isolation. Those who came in contact with me in the last few days are advised to get tested for themselves and take required precaution (sic).”

Prior to Shripad Naik, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Arjun Meghwal and Kailash Chaudhary had tested positive for coronavirus.

In April, Ayush minister Shripad Naik, who has tested positive today for Covid-19, had expressed confidence that the viral infection can be treated with Ayurveda.

Shripad Naik had claimed that Britain’s Prince Charles was also cured of Covid-19 by Ayurveda. However, when Prince Charles rejected this claim, the minister said it was obvious for him to refuse. “I am hundred and one per cent sure that he got cured because of Ayurveda,” the minister had said.

Naik also said that once scientific validation of some formulas in Ayurveda is done, the country would be ready to treat Covid-19 patients with it.

“When other systems like allopathy have failed, we have a solution to treat Covid-19 through Ayurveda,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.

The minister also alleged that a lobby was hindering the usage of Ayurveda as an effective medicine to treat novel coronavirus in the country.
