Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and son of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav has built his support base in Bihar and people see him as one of the probable CM candidates, the latest Lokniti-CSDS opinion poll has revealed.
Assembly elections in Bihar will be held in three phases this time with the first one scheduled for October 28.
According to the findings of the Lokniti-CSDS opinion poll, 27 per cent respondents want Tejashwi Yadav to be Bihar’s next chief minister.
Compared to this, 31 per cent respondents said they want Nitish Kumar to continue as chief minister.
While Nitish Kumar maintains a marginal lead, his popularity appears to have declined, the opinion poll shows.
Another interesting finding of the Lokniti-CSDS poll is that if one combines Tejashwi Yadav’s popularity with the residual popularity of his father Lalu Prasad (3 per cent), the gap between Nitish Kumar and the Lalu Yadav family reduces to just 1 per cent.
If these figure hold true on the polling day, it would be a significant gain for Tejashwi Yadav as his detractors have been dismissing him as a greenhorn.
The Lokniti-CSDS opinion poll suggests that he is giving Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar a run for his money when it comes to the question of who the people of Bihar want as the state’s next CM.
