Table Space co-founder Amit Banerji dies of heart attack

Amit Banerji, the founder, chairman, and CEO of managed workspace provider Table Space, tragically passed away from a heart attack on Monday morning, reported VCCircle.

His untimely death was confirmed by the company in an official statement. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Amit Banerji, our Founder, Chairman, and CEO. His impact on the company, its people and the industry will be lasting, and he will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and partners,” the statement read.

Banerji’s sudden death adds to the growing list of entrepreneurs and investors who have passed away prematurely. Notably, Rohan Malhotra, co-founder of Good Capital, died at 44 last year, and Ambareesh Murty, co-founder of Pepperfry, passed away at 51 in 2023. Just last month, Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of Epigamia, also succumbed to a heart attack.

Banerji, aged 44, was a seasoned professional with vast experience in the technology and real estate sectors. Before founding Table Space in 2017, he worked at Accenture for over 13 years, leaving as its managing director of corporate real estate in India. He co-founded Table Space alongside Karan Chopra, with a vision to provide innovative and flexible workspace solutions.

Under Banerji’s leadership, Table Space grew rapidly, with Banerji playing a pivotal role in business planning, negotiations, and asset management. The company, aiming for a valuation of $2.5 billion in its upcoming IPO, raised around $330 million in several funding rounds, including a significant commitment from Hillhouse Capital.

As of FY24, Table Space reported a 35% increase in revenue, with a notable rise in both occupancy rates and leasable areas. Despite this significant growth, the company will undoubtedly feel the impact of Banerji’s loss as it moves forward with plans for its IPO.

Banerji’s contributions to both Table Space and the startup ecosystem will be remembered, and his passing leaves a void in the industry.
