The Prohibition and Excise Department police took former Minister and YSR Congress Party leader Jogi Ramesh into custody for questioning for his alleged role in the spurious liquor case. Mr. Ramesh was Accused No.18 in the case. The Excise police took Mr. Ramesh, who was in judicial custody, from the jail on Thursday (November 27, 2025).
The prime accused, Addepalli Janardhan Rao, in a statement given to police said he was doing the spurious liquor business with the help of the former Minister.
It was alleged that Addepalli Janardhan Rao and his brother, Addepalli Jaganmohan Rao, and others were manufacturing spurious liquor at Mulakalacheruvu in Annamayya district and at Ibrahimpatnam in NTR district.
“The accused were maintaining illegal bottling unit and liquor shops and marketing the spurious liquor with fake labels and hallmark seals,” the Bhavanipuram Excise police alleged. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe into the case and so far arrested 18 accused in the sensational case.
“During investigation it was revealed that the spurious liquor racket has links with Goa, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other cities. The accused brought raw material from different places,” the Excise police said.
