Seva Dal is the pillar of Congress: Shivakumar

Encouraging positive self-perception and promoting a sense of self-worth among Seva Dal members, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday said Seva Dal was the pillar of the Congress.

“Do not feel that Seva Dal has the least importance in the party. We are thinking of giving power to the Seva Dal at taluk and district levels,” the Deputy Chief Minister, who is also KPCC president, said at a State-level conference of Bharatiya Seva Dal here.

“Society recognises those who do service. That is why in our society, there are more temples of Lord Hanuman, the devotee of Lord Ram, than of Lord Ram’s father Dasharatha Maharaj. Similarly, you are the pillar of the Congress. All Seva Dal workers should keep this in mind,” he said.

Pointing out that the Seva Dal was established for the purpose of national security, Mr. Shivakumar said it started during Jawarhalal Nehru’s tenure and had been going on till Mallikarjun Kharge’s tenure. Do not assume that the Seva Dal is a side branch of the Congress and that the party does not recognise it. Seva Dal will be given as much power as possible at the district and taluk levels, he said.
