The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) signed an agreement with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) for executing the work of its new 800 megawatt ultra super critical thermal power plant planned on the premises of the existing 2×600 MW project at Pegadapalli near Jaipur in Mancherial district in 40 months.

The BHEL would not only supply the boilers, turbines and generators (BGT) for the power plant but would also take up civil works. Chairman and managing director of the SCCL N. Balaram suggested the executing agency take into account the problems faced during the establishment of 1,200 power project and prepare plans to avoid all such hurdles when the company would take up work next month.

Though the contract period for completion of the plant was 48 months, the agency was asked to complete it in 40 months even if some minor works go beyond the 40 month period. SCCL directors D. Satyanarayana Rao, L.V. Suyanarayana and K. Venkateshwarlu, executive director Sd. M. Subhani, general manager and head from BHEL Parthasarathi Das and GM Jogesh Gulati were among those present during the signing of the agreement.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balaram requested the BHEL authorities to complete the work before deadline by constant supervision since all basic infrastructure was already available on the 1,200 MW project premises. He stated that the 800 MW unit would ensure another ₹300 crore a year profit to Singareni. Tenders for the new plant were already completed and agreement was signed on Tuesday.

The 1,200 MW project completed and commissioned in 2016 was already contributing ₹450 crore profit to the company and had supplied about 70 million units of energy to the needs of Telangana. As part of its functioning, the existing project had achieved the highest plant load factor (PLF) among the public sector thermal power projects in the country several times.
