The political deadlock in Rajasthan may finally be over. The ongoing tussle between the Rajasthan government and Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra may soon come to an end as the state cabinet has decided to drop its demand for an immediate assembly session, sources have said.
The Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan was seeking an assembly session from July 31 to prove its majority in the House, after a faction of the MLAs backing former deputy CM Sachin Pilot rebelled. However, Governor Mishra had refused to accept the cabinet proposal three times, citing a lack of reason for the urgency of the session. A proposal for an assembly session is usually submitted 21 days in advance.
Governor Mishra had also questioned the intention of the assembly session, as the cabinet had not mentioned trust vote on their proposal but it had been mentioned before the media.
In a fresh revised proposal, the Ashok Gehlot cabinet has sought the assembly session from August 14, sources have told India Today TV.
As per sources, the government is calculating the date of 21-day notice from July 25, when it had sent its second proposal to the Governor.
The fourth proposal was drafted after an hour-long cabinet meeting at the Chief MInister’s residence on Wednesday evening.
The move comes hours after CM Ashok Gehlot held a meeting with Governor Kalraj Mishra at Raj Bhavan.
“Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot held a long meeting with the Governor. Several things were discussed. We are hopeful that the deadlock will be resolved. The Governor had asked certain queries. We have replied to them. We do not want any confrontation with the Governor. We have sent the date on which we want Assembly session to be convened,” Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Cabinet Minister Rajasthan government told India Today TV.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had lashed out at the BJP at the PCC office. Reacting to the Governor’s decision to reject the third proposal, Gehlot had claimed that the Governor was under political pressure from the BJP.
“The Governor has once again returned the proposal mentioning that 21 day period is required for holding the Assembly session. The Governor, Kalraj Mishra, is a nice soft-spoken person. He is amenable. You can understand under whose directions he has been acting. Even his soul knows what the truth is,” Ashok Gehlot said.
“Everyone knows what the BJP has been up to. It was up to its scheming ways in Karnataka. The Governors of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have been acting differently in similar situations,” Gehlot stated.
However, during the evening cabinet meeting, CM Ashok Gehlot told his ministers that he will not issue any more statements about Governor Kalraj Mishra until he responds to the fresh proposal.
