PoP idols being seized following a tip-off to the Deputy Commissioner in Dharwad on Monday.

With the Ganesh festival fast approaching, the district administration has intensified the drive against those selling Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols and on Monday, conducted search in the workshops of 10 idol-makers in Dharwad.
The search was carried out following a tip-off received by Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. The authorities have seized the PoP idols.
The search was carried in the shops and workshops of the 10 idol-makers at Gandhi Chowk locality in Dharwad with District Environment Officer Jagadish I.H. leading the team comprising officials from the Municipal Corporation and the Police Department.
The 10 PoP idols that were seized were found in the shop of idol-maker Santosh Chavan. All of the idols were seized and a warning issued to the idol-maker.
During the search, the officials also took various samples of the idols in the making and sent them to laboratories for testing.
Municipal Environment Engineer Saroja Pujar, Senior Health Inspector Shanthagouda Biradar, Health Inspector Vidyashree Badiger and others carried out the search.
