An official permit will be compulsory from April 10 for the transportation of petroleum products into the State and their storage. The decision applies to quantities of 50 litres and above.
The State Goods and Services Tax department has issued a notification listing the conditions and the documents required for their transport and storage.
Persons in charge of transporting petroleum products of 50 litres and above into the State should have with them the permit issued by the Deputy Commissioner of State Tax, Taxpayer Services Headquarters, Thiruvananthapuram, a document showing the purpose for which the petroleum products are being brought into the State, and the sale bill/delivery note for the goods.
The maximum quantity of petroleum products that can be brought in a single permit is restricted to 75 litres. Only one permit per week will be issued to a person.
Not applicable
The above conditions will not be applicable to the transportation and storage of petroleum products for oil companies and establishments that have obtained registration under the Kerala General Sales Tax Act, 1963, for the retails sales of petroleum products. They will also not apply to petroleum products brought into the State as fuel in the fuel tanks of vehicles as per the specifications of the manufacturer, the notification said.
The notification (No. 05/2025-State Tax) dated April 1, 2025, and the form for applying for the permit can be accessed on www.keralataxes.gov.in.
The conditions set out in the April 1 notification will come into effect from April 10, the State GST department said.
