A man accused of killing and robbing truck drivers on highways was killed in an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat on Sunday (June 29, 2025), police said.
Sandeep, a resident of Haryana’s Rohtak, was wounded in the encounter and later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
ADG STF Amitabh Yash said in a statement, “The Noida unit of STF and the Baghpat Police had an encounter with a gang, which looted trucks loaded with goods on highways after killing the drivers. One of them, Sandeep, suffered a bullet injury and was sent to a hospital for treatment. Later, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.”
Sandeep, who was wanted for looting a truck carrying nickel plates worth about ₹4 crore from Kanpur, was carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh.
“He committed robberies by killing truck drivers on highways. Till now, he allegedly killed more than four truck drivers and robbed trucks with goods,” police said.
More than 16 cases were registered against him in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana.
