Minister for Roads and Buildings, B.C. Janardhan Reddy, inspected the road repair works at Petlurivari Palem, Narsaraopet mandal, in Palnadu district on December 2.
Mr. Janardhan Reddy said, “We have undertaken road repair works in all districts across the State today, with the goal of pothole-free roads.” In Palnadu district alone, 133 projects covering repairs across 935 km of road have been initiated at a cost ₹38.65 crore.
The State government is working towards achieving pothole-free roads by Sankranthi and allocated ₹861 crore for this purpose. “Due to the negligence of the previous YSRCP government, the roads are in an extremely bad condition. Payments to contractors were also delayed because of which work the works were halted,” he said.
“We have prepared proposals to develop approximately 3,300 km of roads under the PPP model. Based on the feasibility, we will construct four-lane roads. Currently, roadworks worth about ₹76,000 crore are under way on national highways across the State.”
