The daily wage for workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has been revised from ₹349 to ₹370 per person with effect from April 1.
Announcing this update on March 31, Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini said the Union Ministry of Rural Development has issued an order regarding the wage revision. The new wage rate applies for the 2025-26 financial year, she added.
Under MGNREGA, every eligible rural family is assured of 100 days of wage employment in a financial year. With the revised wage, a family completing 100 days of work can now earn ₹37,000, compared to ₹34,900 in the previous year.
Highlighting the inclusive nature of the scheme, Ms Nandini emphasised that both men and women receive equal wages under MGNREGA, ensuring gender equality in rural employment.
The wage revision is expected to improve the earnings of rural families since the scheme assures 100 days of employment to job card-holders.
