Actor Mahima Chaudhry, who plays an important role in the Netflix film ‘Nadaaniyan’, reacted to the negative reviews that the film has received. The 51-year-old told an entertainment website that even Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ received criticism because the audience always remains “divided”.
‘Nadaaniyan’ features Saif Ali Khan-Amrita Singh’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, and Khushi Kapoor. Upon its release last Friday, it was bashed left, right and centre for the bad performances by the leads, the lack of a compelling story, and irrelevant and unrelatable narrative.
Chaudhry, who was in Jaipur for the IIFA 2025 weekend, talked to DNA about the criticism of the Shauna Gautam directorial. She said, “The negative reviews are okay. The audience is divided. Whether it was Animal or any other film in the past, they were criticised. Some people like real cinema, some like make-believe. I sometimes wanted to watch real cinema. Sometimes I want to watch something easy. It will always be divided.”
The actor added that her friends and family members had good things to say about the film. She said, “After the film released, I called a few of all my friends and close ones, and the majority of people have told me ‘We’ve already watched.’ I have been receiving lots of love and positive messages on my DM.”
In ‘Nadaaniyan’, Chaudhry plays the role of a woman who’s married to a rich Delhi businessman (Suniel Shetty). However, her husband has an affair with another woman, while the family constantly keeps blaming her for not being able to produce a male heir.
The film also stars Dia Mirza, Jugal Hansraj, Meezan Jaafri, Archana Puran Singh and Apoorva Makhija, among others. ‘Nadaaniyan’ has been backed by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Aadar Poonawalla’s Dharmatic Entertainment.
