Lawyers under the banner of the Abhibhashaka Parishath staged a protest in front of the court complex at Tirur on Tuesday against the State government for increasing court fees. They demanded reversal of the increased court fees. They said the increased fees would render access to justice expensive for people.
The sharp increase in court fees has sparked concerns from lawyers who said that it would undermine their constitutional duty to provide justice to people.
They said the government’s decision to raise court fees amounted to penalising people for exercising their constitutional right to access justice. The fee increase, according to them, was arbitrary.
Parishath district vice president Prakash Prabhakaran inaugurated the protest. Tirur unit secratary Vijayakumar presided. District vice president Remya C.T. and other leaders Anil Lal, K.K. Sunil Kumar, Bhavesh, Rajeesh and Anjana spoke.
