The role of former Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anant Dev will be investigated in the Vikas Dubey case, sources said.

An old letter, dated March 14, 2020, of Bilhaur Circle Officer (CO) Devendra Mishra, who lost his life in the encounter last week, to the then SSP Anant Dev Tiwari, where he had expressed his apprehensions about a possible major attack from gangster Vikas Dubey, is going viral on the internet.

Anant Dev Tiwari is now in the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police, which is probing the Kanpur encounter case.

Meanwhile, sources also said that CO Devendra Mishra had apparently complained against Station Officer (SO) Vinay Tiwari several times, but he went unheard.

Police has suspended Vinay Tiwari, SO at Chaubeypur Station and are examining the possibility that he informed Dubey that a police team was heading to his Bikru village to arrest him.

Mishra had complained that Tiwari was in connivance with Vikas Dubey and had warned of serious consequences in future if no action was taken against him.
