The Indian Space Research Organisation on Thursday, November 28, said its EOS-06(Oceansat-3) and INSAT-3DR satellites are closely tracking Cyclone Fengal that has been approaching Tamil Nadu since November 23.

The EOS-06 is the third-generation satellite in the Oceansat series. ISRO said the satellite’s Scatterometer has helped in early detection of the cyclone and identified ocean wind patterns, providing crucial lead time.

Similarly, the geostationary INSAT-3DR has also provided real-time insights and offered regular updates on the intensity and direction of the cyclone.

The INSAT-3DR is an advanced meteorological satellite of India configured with an imaging system and an atmospheric sounder.

“ISRO satellites EOS-06 & INSAT-3DR are closely tracking Cyclone FENGAL approaching Tamil Nadu since 23-Nov-2024. Early Detection: EOS-06 Scatterometer identified ocean wind patterns, providing crucial lead time. Real-Time Insights: Geostationary INSAT-3DR offers regular updates on intensity & direction.ISRO’s advanced satellite data aids in effective monitoring & mitigation, ensuring safety measures are timely and informed. Stay safe, stay prepared!,” posted ISRO on X.

Last month, two satellites tracked cyclone Dana and provided inputs to help in better monitoring and mitigation of cyclone threat.
