HIGHLIGHTS
- Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 20 runs
- SRH captain David Warner said an extra batsman could have helped in the run-chase
- Difficult to come at team’s which have swing bowlers: Warner
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) slumpped to their 5th defeat of the IPL 2020 season after their batting-order collapsed to fall 20 runs short of 168-run target set by Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Kane Wiliamson, who scored an impressive 57 off 39, was SRH’s only batsmen who looked in mood to chase down CSK’s target but he did not get support from any other batsmen. Jonny Bairstow (23) was Hyderabad’s second-highest run-scorer in the match.
During the post-match presentation ceremony team’s captain David Warner said that it would have been nice to come in the match with an extra batsman. Warner also talked about the change in nature of wickets. The wickets in UAE have slowed down because of repetitive matches on them and the role of spinners and swing bowlers is increasing after every passing day.
CSK spinners and swing bowlers were all over SRH batsmen in Dubai on Tuesday. MS Dhoni making brilliant bowling changes added to the woes of Hyderabad who kept on searching for a solid partnership till the end. Warner also rekoned that challenging a team with good swing bowlers is a difficult task. The Australian also added that anything beyond 160 was going to be tought to chase.
“The chase didn’t take flight. The wicket was a tad on the slow side. Without the extra batter, you almost err on the side of caution. We wanted to take it deep. But this is what happens in cricket, you can’t win always. You’ve got one big boundary and you’ve got to rely on power, so obviously there are things we’ve to go back to the drawing board. I thought 160 was the right total to go after.
“Anything above that was going to be difficult, after we lost two wickets. If you’ve got teams that swing the ball, it’s difficult to come at them. You’ve got to have clear minds, whether you’re walking out or sitting deep in the crease. They’re the challenges in the game. I think with our team and the depth that we have, we’re always going to be one short either way. Would have been nice to have an extra batter today but you’ve got to weight the pros and cons,” David Warner said.
After the match SRH are sitting 5th on the points table ahead of CSK, who are occupying the 6th spot. Both the teams have 6 points each.
