CJI-led Supreme Court bench will take up a PIL seeking CBI probe or SIT probe into the Hathras alleged gangrape case today. The plea has sought probe under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court or High Court judge, besides changing the place of trial from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi. On request of the families of the Hathras accused and after discussions of ABKM’s meeting, Raja Manvendra Singh, former central minister has appointed Supreme Court lawyer, AP Singh, to defend the accused in the Hathras case. AP Singh had famously represented the rape convicts in the Nirbhaya case. As the Hathras case triggered massive outrage in Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country, the UP government recommended a CBI probe into the case.
