Glenn Maxwell is going to win us games: Mitchell Marsh ahead of England clash

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has backed Glenn Maxwell to be the team’s match-winner in the T20 World Cup 2024. Marsh called it a “no-brainer” to have the star all-rounder in the side, who has proved to be a match-winner for his national team on many occasions. Australia will face England in a high-octane clash on June 8 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, West Indies.

While addressing the media, Marsh talked about Maxwell being an integral part of the side, with his contribution from the bat as well as the ball.

“I think it’s exactly that. We know that Maxi is going to win us games and there’s going to be ups and downs with everyone in the team in this format. When you take the game on, which is what we want guys to do, we want guys to trust their ability and Maxy is vitally important for us. He bats, bowls, and he’s an exceptional fielder, and he’s a good leader within our team. So, for me, it’s always a no-brainer,” Marsh said.

Maxwell did not have the best of IPL 2024 for RCB as in 10 matches he managed to score 52 runs. He made it to Australia’s playing XI during their T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Oman and was dismissed for a golden duck.

Marsh also pointed out that Pat Cummins will be back into the playing XI after missing out on the first encounter. He also deemed Mitchell Starc as fit to be available for the encounter against England.

Will Cummins-Starc play vs England?

“Yeah, I dare say, Patty will be back in. He’d played a lot of cricket, had a long travel and we wanted to make sure he was right for this game. So, yeah, as simple as that.

“Starc is all good. Just a bit of cramp from the other night. So, as I said, there was no unnecessary risk taken and he’s fit,” Marsh added.

Nathan Elllis might be kept out if Cummins and Starc will both feature in Australia’s playing XI.

In the overall head-to-head matchups, England have won 11 and Australia have won 10 encounters. Meanwhile, in T20 World Cup matches as well, England hold advantage over Australia, having won 2 out of 3 matches.
