A person, who went missing on December 29, was found dead in the Hemavathi backwaters near Shettihalli in Hassan taluk on Wednesday. The police gave the name of the deceased as G.J. Pramod, 35, who was working as an engineer for an automobile company.
Pramod, resident of Indira Nagar in Hassan, was married to Nandini seven years ago and the couple have a child. He went out on his bike on Sunday, leaving his cellphone at home. As he did not return, his parents filed a complaint with the Hassan Extension Police the next day.
As his bike was found near the bridge across the Hemavathi backwaters, the police searched for him with the help of the Fire and Emergency Services. His body was retrieved on Wednesday.
His father Jagadish blamed Pramod’s wife and in-laws for the death. Speaking to the media, he said his son was tortured by the in-laws. The differences between the husband and the wife did not resolve even after the intervention of the elders in both families.
The relatives of Pramod picked up an argument with his wife and her parents when they reached the mortuary at HIMS in Hassan. The police intervened and pacified them.
