Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot appealed to students to embrace education as a lifelong journey and use knowledge acquired for the betterment of society.
He addressed students at the 34th annual convocation of Kuvempu University at Shankarghatta in Bhadravati taluk on Wednesday, January 22, 2021.
Extending wishes to fresh graduates and recipients of honorary doctorates, the Governor stated that convocation marked a significant milestone in the life of a student. “This signifies the start of a new chapter and transition from education to experience. The world is filled with challenges and they bring opportunities. Education is not a toll for personal success, but a means to contribute to humanity’s progress,” he said.
The Governor suggested the students dream big and work towards achieving their goals with unwavering dedication. “Strive to make the world a better place through thoughtful actions and contributions. Embrace education as a lifelong journey and that will guide you throughout your life,” he said.
He presented honorary doctorates to senior politician and former Minister Kagodu Thimmappa, C.S. Unnikrishnan, physicist and D. Nagaraj, a yoga trainer.
Vice-Chancellor Sharath Ananthamurthy, registrar A.L. Manjunath and others were present. The governor presented gold medals to 84 students, who scored highest marks in different disciplines. Vasanth Kumar B.J. received 10 gold medals and a cash prize for securing highest marks in MA in Kannada. Saniya Firdse, who completed M.Sc. In Environment Science, secured six gold medals.
