Elderly woman found buried in front of her house allegedly by son in Kerala

The body of an elderly woman was found buried in front of her house allegedly by her son on Thursday (December 19, 2023) morning. The deceased was identified as Ally Peethambaran, 78, of Nediyattil Lane South in Vennala division of the Kochi Corporation. Her son Pradeep Peethambaran, 47, remains detained by the Palarivattom police.

The police are yet to confirm whether the victim had a natural death after which the body was buried allegedly by her son or any foul play was involved. According to the police, the death could have occurred anywhere between Wednesday night and the early morning hours of Thursday. The police had dug out the body buried in a small pit in front of the house.

A few neighbours reportedly saw Pradeep digging a pit and burying his mother around 6.30 a.m. They alerted the office-beaers of their resident’s association.

“We immediately alerted the Palarivattom police and the division councillor. Pradeep often used to create trouble in the neighbourhood under the influence of alcohol,” said Ajith Kumar, president, Surya Resident’s Association, Vennala.

Pradeep was still under the influence of alcohol when the police arrived.

Pradeep’s wife and elder son had moved out of the house some six months ago. While his 16-year-old younger son was at home on Wednesday, he reportedly left in the evening after Pradeep came home drunk and created a ruckus.

Ally was diabetic and was reportedly asked by the doctor to amputate a part of her leg owing to infection.
