The Directorate of Public Health has identified 4.35 lakh children with development delays, birth defects, deficiencies and diseases through its screening in the past year.
DPH director T.S. Selvavinayagam, in a letter to the health officers, said around 1.14 lakh children were referred to the district early intervention centre for expert advice and the rest were managed at the primary health centres.
Dr. Selvavinayagam appreciated the district health officials and the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram team for its work on the field. He urged the teams to plan an advanced tour for the screening and inform the school education department. The details of the tour programme must be made available on the directorate’s website. The team has been instructed to submit reports through the school education management information system.
Newborn units in hospitals must also upload the details of the screenings and anomalies on the website so that appropriate interventions are provided without delay, the DPH said.
