Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday deflected questions about former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s remark against BJP minister Imarti Devi.
Singh said he does know the context behind Kamal Nath’s remark, but added that he does not understand the BJP’s need to rake up the matter.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Digvijaya Singh said, “I don’t know in what context Kamal Nath ji said the word.”
“But I don’t know what is the need for the natak (drama) the BJP is doing,” Singh added.
While he deflected questions on Nath’s remark, he attacked the BJP and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for not protesting against the Hathras incident.
Singh’s also taunted Chouhan for saying that he will hold a ‘maun vrat’ for two hours on Monday in protest against the remark by Kamal Nath against Imarti Devi.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan had slammed Kamal Nath for disrespecting a woman BJP minister and said it shows the “crooked and despicable mentality of the Congress”.
Chouhan said in a tweet that Kamal Nath’s remark is not only a disrespectful for the minister but for each and every girl of the Gwalior-Chambal region.
Chouhan in a tweet in Hindi said, “With your cheap statement, Congress’ crooked and despicable mentality has come to the fore again. You have not just disrespected Smt Imarti Devi, but each and every girl and sister of Gwalior-Chambal region.”
While addressing a poll meeting on Sunday in Gwalior’s Dabra town ahead of the by-elections in the state, Kamal Nath said his party candidate in the region was a “simple person” unlike the opponent who is an “item”. Even after facing criticism, Nath has maintained that he did not make the remark as a sign of disrespect.
His remark was against Imarti Devi who had switched over to the BJP along with 21 other MLAs who were loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia.
It may be noted that by-elections for 28 Madhya Pradesh Assembly seats will be held on November 3 and the counting of votes will be held on November 10.
